I am Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, where I teach and research on environmental issues. I am also a contributing writer and editor at Kyoto Journal, a semiannual magazine, and the Japan Times, Japan's largest English-language daily newspaper. I am currently working on a special issue of Kyoto Journal concerning biodiversity aimed at COP 10.
