I am joining the group on behalf of Fairtrade Africa. Fairtrade Africa (FTA) is an organization that represents a network of fairtrade producers from all over Africa. FTA is wholly owned by its members, who are African Fairtrade producers. These are farmers who are certified against internationally recognized set of standards. Products range from coffee, rooibos to wine and spices.

Climate Change is real and most of us are feeling its effects, but farmers are definitely at the forefront of this fight. Fairtrade Africa has embarked on a campaign to ensure active representation of Fairtrade producer needs in the face of Climate Change.

Fairtrade Africa seeks to achieve the following at COP17:

To make key policy-makers aware of the Fair Trade principles and achievements and how the existing Fair Trade “package” helps small-scale producers to adapt to climate change as well as the potential of the movement to do more
To highlight the plight of farmers on the ground and lobby for a policy environment that enables the Fairtrade system to offer more and better mechanisms (to FT producers and other vulnerable producers) to both mitigate and adapt to climate change
To contribute to ensuring that key policy-makers are aware of the importance of making adaptation finance available in ways that ensure effective support to vulnerable producers
