Syed Ali Mujtaba is a working journalist based in Chennai. He was Jefferson fellows at the East West Center, Hawaii in 2003. He also freelance as India Correspondent for www.mizzima.com, a pro democracy Burmese media outlet that specializes on Burma related news. Recently he has done a series of video programme ´Talk Time´ for www.mizzima.tv. Besides, he also writes for several newspapers, news syndicates and websites. Mujtaba has taken doctoral degree from School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has authored two books, "The Demand for Partition of India and British Policy 1940-45," Mittal publication 2002 and "Soundings on South Asia", New Dawn publication, 2005. His second book was released in India, UK and USA. He is currently working on "Partition of India- A collective Reading." He has contributed a chapter each in four edited volumes. His research papers have appeared in Indian Institute of Defense Studies and Analysis (IDSA), Journal of South Asia, Jaipur and Polsan studies, Nepal. An abstract of his research paper appeared in Political Science Abstract from France. Mujtaba had qualified National Education Test, conducted by University Grant Commission that provided him scholarship to pursue doctoral research. He also bagged government of India's grant for a field trip to go to England in 1994 to do further research. He was based in London and visited Oxford and Cambridge universities for his research. He even presented a paper at the Darwin College, Cambridge. He was also invited in 1995 to present a paper by the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu Nepal. Mujtaba is a peace activist and is actively engaged in propagating the idea of for regional peace and harmony in the South Asian region. He is the founder and moderator of an Internet forum called South Asia Contact Group that has over 250 members. Mujtaba is also a documentary filmmaker. A US based company Lamppost Media hired him for shooting a documentary on Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg the first Protestant missionary to visit India. The documentary is called "Beyond Empires" and can be accessed at www.lamppostmedia.net. His works can be accessed though Google and the U Tube. Mujtaba has taken his Bachelors and Masters Degree from AMU Aligarh and was in the University Football team.
