This report was shot three days after the intense rain that flooded the whole of Lagos on 10/07/11. It rained for about NINETEEN  HOURS non stop and overwhelmed even the state government who thought they had an effective deflooding measure in place. Dr Regina Folorunsho, a marine geologist with the Nigerian Institute of oceanography and Marine research told me through a telephone interview that the amount of rain that fell is recorded at two hundred and sixty-four (264) millimetre and it is  eqivalent to the quantity of rains in one month. It is said to be the worst rain in ten years. Lekki being a wet land area is usually badly affected because it was sandfilled. I visited maiyegun commuinity and was shocked that three days after the heavy downpour, the flood was still drownable.Dr Folorunsho also said Climate change is responsible for the heavy rains we are experiencing. though the Nigerian Meterological Agency NIMET had earlier in the year warned that there would be more rains but there is no effective disaster management in place and the drains remain blocked and the floods are still stagnant as more rains threaten. ten people so far were reported to have died from the rain that Sunday and early hours of Monday
