Communication is pivotal to the operations and success of the ACB, more so in this age of digital information and fast news. Consequently, the ACB’s communication initiatives – from its interpersonal interactions to its correspondence, its social media posts to its press releases, its materials and collaterals to its exhibits and activities – must be both effective and affective, in order to reach its different target audiences and optimise its mileage. Moreover, given the importance and time sensitive objectives of the ACB (indeed, “the house is on fire!”), its communication strategy and platforms need to go beyond awareness-raising and move toward inspiring transformational change. This paradigm shift is in keeping with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the SDGs, the decisions of the Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the findings of the IPBES 2019 Global Assessment.
This balance between functional and aspirational communication that fosters transformational change is what I seek to deliver if I were to be accepted as a member.
