I am a doctoral student at the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Virginia Tech. My research aims to investigate tiger distribution, population, and habitat use in the landscape matrix consisting of forest and plantation areas in Central Sumatra. Using information from this on-going study and existing knowledge, I have helped the government of Indonesia to develop the National Strategy and Action Plan for Sumatran Tiger Conservation. With my team, I have also been engaging private sector and preparing a guideline for better management practices for the plantation companies to support tiger conservation. Before starting my academic study and during my fieldwork, I served as a wildlife biologist for WWF focusing on tiger conservation programs in Indonesia. I am a member of IUCN Cat Specialist Group; I also serves as a member of the advisory board for HarimauKita, the Sumatran Tiger Conservation Forum. I completed my MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation in 2000 at the University of East Anglia, UK; and my bachelor in Biology in 1996 from the University of Indonesia.
